British Orienteering has published the GB team for the World Championships (WOC).
On The Red Line congratulates the fourteen athletes and wishes them well for the next two months of training and for the racing in Latvia in early August.
All have previously represented Great Britain at World Championships. In fact, only the youngest member of the team, Megan Carter-Davies, who debuted last year, has not done so more than once.
The Sprint Relay team is the team that won the sprint relay at the World Universities Orienteering Championships in Miskolc, Hungary two years ago.
There aren't slots in the team for the experienced trio of Graham Gristwood (who missed all the selection races through injury), Hollie Orr and Matt Speake, although all three are named in the team for World Cup Round 3 in Norway - and next year's World Champs are in Norwegian forests.
The full selection process and policy is defined in documents on the British Orienteering website. Performance and performance data were considered from three 2018 competitions: the JK, the European Championships and the British Long Championships, plus the international programmes for 2017 and 2016.
The WOC schedule is:
|Saturday 4th August||Sprint - Qualification|
|"||Sprint - Final|
|Sunday 5th August||Sprint Relay|
|Tuesday 7th August||Middle|
|Thursday 9th August||Relay|
|Saturday 11th August||Long|
